Welsh Government pay offer

It seems the Welsh Government have offered teachers the same as they have offered the nurses. Can someone help me understand what this offer means?

So it’s an additional 3% this year with only 1.5% consolidated. So am I right in thinking that means come September my pay would go back down by 1.5%? That’s how I understand it but from discussions I’m having with others they seem to think it’s 3% this year plus an additional 1.5% from September.

Either way, there’s absolutely no mention of where the funding is coming from and whether or not this is expected to be paid from already stretched and squeezed school budgets.

@DrMadelineMaxwell were you on the live call when that ballot was conducted because when I search that stat online that is being reported in regards to the previous offer made in February. Can you confirm if the 69% voting to reject was in relation to the 11.8% deal and not the first offer that was made last month?

I wasn't, no I get the info second hand from a colleague. I think you are right and it is the first offer.

Pay offer officially accepted after the closed of the vote for NEU members.

Terrible that the support staff in Wales went out on strike and yet they haven’t even discussed any offer for them and have decided to accept for the teachers.

In the NEU meeting for teachers last week this was discussed. Support staff have been offered a 7.8% rise for the next financial year as their pay runs April to April. They also said that support staff pay is governed on a 4 nation basis and so Wales has no power over this, Westminster need to be the ones to discuss changes.
We were told in the meeting that if teachers reject this offer then it will have absolutely no bearing or change to the support staff pay, they are two separate disputes.

None of our support staff are in the neu. They are in unison in my school. Which is now balloting its members for action I believe.
