Phonics resources

Hi All, I work in a bilingual school abroad and have been tasked with running a phonics workshop for the teachers. All good except this is not a half day Inset but instead a 20 hour course. The timing is out of my control but this does include time to prepare resources, feedback presentations, break off in to smaller groups etc. I need to prepare all the presentations and resources (in my own time!!!) and here is where I was hoping for some ideas. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can get started. I will obviously need to make it my own but I know there is probably loads of courses/resources out there which I can use for inspiration and templates to create my own for this school. Thanks for any advice and for saving my sanity!

What phonics programme do you use? Each programme will have its own training needs, resources etc.
If you are expected to develop a phonics programme from scratch, don't! Use a free ( or cheap ) one and stick to it. The Twinkl one isn't bad and at least a good starting point!

The school does not have a phonics program (it’s abroad and private). I have implemented what I have been using from the past based on letters and sounds.

If you can afford to buy a scheme in, use one of the validated ones. They provide planning, resources, books, the lot! But they can work out expensive, we spent around £15,000 on changing over from Letters and Sounds ( which is no longer validated as acceptable) to Little Wandle! You won't have the OFSTED obsession with fidelity to scheme to contend with but it makes sense that everything fits together. The Twinkl one is validated and cheaper!

Are you being paid a lot for this? My school trained all of us at £450 per person with Sounds-Write which was 4 days training (included all programme materials and ongoing support aside from decodable books).

no unfortunately I am not getting paid only getting that 20 hours back which equates to 3 days off. Hence the reason I don’t want to spend loads of time prepping for it!

www.udemy.com/course/twinkl-phonics-cpd-training-part-1/

This is based on the Twinkl phonics SSP but could be useful for a structure or some ideas.

We use Read Write Inc at school. We get training through that and also have access to the online portal to do additional training or send videos home for home learning.
Is there a reason why your school doesn't go for a whole school phonics scheme?

Phonics International is free online and has lots of resources -written by the author of ORT Floppy’s phonics Debbie Hepplewhite.
