Can anyone talk to me about going through threshold abd the extra responsibility that will bring?

It depends massively on the school. Primary or secondary? I had a really chilled head who put me through it without me submitting anything - I think she realised it wasn't worth the time I'd spend on the paperwork. I just keep my head down so I don't get given any extra responsibility! In my old MAT, you couldn't go above M6 unless you led all sorts of nonsense initiatives.

Depends on the school and headteacher.
Most move you up after 1-2 years on MPS with very little hassle.
However some require evidence of lots of extracurricular as well as high grades amongst classes.

It's not supposed to be more responsibility, but that's what many schools have turned it into. I was lucky I just got moved up after a successful performance management but I've known people have to put together a folder of evidence and stuff.

TheNefariousOrange · 25/01/2023 05:23

I had to put through a pgce-style folder of evidence but I didn't need to take on responsibilities.

OK thanks all,I'll have a chat with head teacher, honestly after today I feel like walking away from it all!

It might not apply in your school but the STPCD says this:

  1. Application to be paid on the upper pay range 15.1. Qualified teachers may apply to be paid on the upper pay range at least once a year in line with their school’s pay policy. Relevant bodies shall assess any such application received and make a determination, in line with their pay policy, on whether the teacher meets the criteria in paragraph 15.2. Where a teacher is subject to the 2012 Regulations, the relevant body shall have regard to the assessments and recommendations in the teacher’s appraisal reports under those regulations. 15.2. An application from a qualified teacher will be successful where the relevant body is satisfied: a) that the teacher is highly competent in all elements of the relevant standards; and b) that the teacher’s achievements and contribution to an educational setting or settings are substantial and sustained. 15.3. The pay policy shall set out the process for assessing applications and make clear how the relevant body will interpret the criteria in paragraph 15.2.

I would start by checking your school's pay policy.

I filled in the same form as everyone for pay progression but I had to do something for the wider department not just my classes. No evidence just had to be signed by line manager.

It was relatively easy.
