Does anyone have experience of them? Pros/cons etc?

Cons - You don't get to support your colleagues and stick up for the children you teach.
Pros - You don't lose a day's pay on strike day and you get the same deal as all of us who are planning to go on strike.

I use it as I got fed up with my union and their bombardment. The union rep who came to school made me despair and I felt was highly political and not representative of all. I didn't like funding some things I didn't necessarily agree with politics wise. I am not against unions, more just didn't feel I could find an education one which really reflected all my views.

I like the fact I get cover and support should anything go wrong but it is apolitical.

I've had to contact them twice due to bullying and they were great both times. I'm very happy with them.

It is meant to be... got this email today. Do you mean it isn't in reality or it officially isn't?

While they don't ballot their members for strike action, because they are not a trade union, you can belong to them and go out on strike in sympathy with other unions legally, whereas you can't with the NASUWT.

They are cheaper than NEU (with their additional local fund) but not much cheaper than NAS.

They have no discretionary pot to apply for a hardship payment towards pay lost due to striking that many areas of the NEU have.
