Currently paid 20,500 for my role .I get paid monthly but work
School term plus paid hoilday so total pay is for 44.09 weeks of year.
Have managed to secure 2 interviews for roles earning around 23.500 so tale home without any additional transport costs etc is only £150 per month but I will be working 52 weeks per Yr.
Would you do it ?

I suppose it depends what the other job is and how much you need the extra money but I wouldn't do it. You are working eight additional weeks for £3000 gross is that right?

donttellmehesalive · 15/12/2022 06:22

Will you still only be working school hours, with a decent local government pension?

notmrscookie · 15/12/2022 21:37

@donttellmehesalive yes ton8 wks for 300 gross .my school hours are 40 hpw but new role is 35hpw.

No. I'd need a much bigger payrise to lose term time only / with hols.

It's the thing everyone I know who's left schools say they miss!

You work and get paid for 40 hours a week in a school ? Full time hours for support staff are 37. Our staff get paid for a maximum of 30 hours.
Work out your hourly rate, sickness benefit and pension between the 2 jobs. Travel time and time off are important considerations as well.

notmrscookie · 17/12/2022 19:08

@Powertoyou yes we do 8.15 to 4 4 days a wk and 8.15 to 5 1 day a wk
The new job is advertised as home working with travel to different locations as required so it's a maximum of 130 max a month in my pocket if homeworking but pension is better and hoildays don't have to be taken school hoildays so that will save money.

What's your current take home pay?

Is £20,500 actually pro rate salary or is that 52 weeks?

Do you have children that need care during school holidays?

Personally I'd drop my school job like a hot potato if I could secure a salary that match with similar opportunities.

notmrscookie · 18/12/2022 02:48

@mincepiepie That's my take home wage before tax.My kids are in there 20s but can only afford to pay a small amount of rent each so money isctight.
