Wanting to get pregnant

Hi,

Looking for some advice, I moved schools in September. I would like to get pregnant but would need to enhanced maternity pay. I can’t figure out how long I need to stay before we start trying for a baby, I read 52+ 11 somewhere when your are 26 weeks pregnant?

Does that mean I need to wait around 37 weeks or 9/10 months after starting work. I work for an Academy MAT.

Thanks for any advice

neu.org.uk/advice/maternity-rights

The above link is quite useful, but you will need to check your contract/MAT policy as MATs don't have to follow STPCD on this.

If the MAT does follow the policy, it's 52+11 on the week you start maternity leave.

However, if you have a probationary period in your contract, I would personally want to ensure I was through that before letting them know I was pregnant.

Hi @Postapocalypticcowgirl my academy have said they follow the Shared Parental Leave guidance nationally so I guess the burgundy book policy.

The guidance online says the mother must:

  • have been employed continuously by the same employer for at least 26 weeks by the end of the 15th week before the due date
  • stay with the same employer until they start their SPL

Does that mean basically you only need to he employed a week before getting pregnant to qualify?

I read 52+11 but now can’t find it.

26 weeks employment by end of 15th week is for SMP. So basically you can't have be pregnant when you started and can conceive one week after starting to receive this and

52+11 is for occupational maternity pay.

So it's 63 weeks after commencing work. So you need to have done 23 weeks before conceiving so 6 months. Approx

Maternity money is amazing for working out what I'm you will get as it pre populated for teachers.

@QueenMabs thanks so much that makes sense.

I don’t want to ask too many questions to HR before I pass my 6 month probation in February.
