Letter of resignation

Does anyone know whether I should add my reasons for leaving my teaching post of 15 years in my letter of resignation?

I'm being put through a formal investigation over something I am not to blame for. I have applied for a post elsewhere which I've been offered after interview. I haven't been supported throughout the investigation process and it's clear they want to pin the blame on me. It's been awful. Do I say that this has led to me leaving? Or do I just hand a generic letter in and leave quietly?

It's entirely up to you how much you write - in schools where I was happy I thanked them for the support, experience etc and said I'd miss them.

In the school where it was very obvious they wanted me out, my letter said:
'Please accept this letter as formal confirmation of my resignation with effect from xxx' For me, the absence of anything else spoke far more loudly than anything I could have said about how unprofessional, unsupportive etc they were. And you never know when you might come across someone from that school again - in teaching, definitely don't burn any bridges!

@toomuchicecream thank you for your reply. Your advice is exactly what I needed to hear so thank you. You're so right about burning bridges. Will go quietly I think.

Agree a three line letter of resignation is a great feeling!!

Dear head

I write to inform you of my resignation from my post of x teacher at x school from the 31st December 2022

My last working day will be Friday 16th December.

Yours sincerely

Me

Or you could stick the knife in ad address it to whom this may concern.

toomuchicecream pretty much hit it on the head. I wouldn’t personally use the resignation letter to go into detail about why you’re leaving. All they need to know is the formalities - the date you are leaving etc.
Education is a very small world, you never know who you will cross paths with again - just keep your exit professional. Don’t forget your new school will most likely require a reference from this employer so I wouldn’t burn the bridges.
Congratulations on the new role.

Even when I've liked a school, my resignation letter has been 3 lines. Anything else is done in conversation.

🤔

Does your school policy include an exit interview. You have chance to talk, rather than put anything in writing.

@AvySt I just found the above funny. I'm not leaving but thinking about it. Absolutely 3 lines is plenty, unsure if there is an exit interview opportunity. You're so right about not putting thoughts down in writing.
