Any ex TAs? What job do you do now?

Are there any ex TAs out there who would mind sharing what job they do now?

I think I need to get out of my current job sadly. So much I love about it but the expectations are just beyond ridiculous and the anxiety and stress are disproportionate to the pittance of a salary. I fond myself trying to be a 1:1 and part time TA in Yr 1 this year and it's almost impossible, I'm not getting half the stuff done I'm supposed to. And I don't stop from the minute I walk through the door to the minute I leave. SLT are not particularly supportive. Sigh.

I am a qualified teacher but have found working as a TA fitted in so well with raising my family. They are much older now and really don't need me around so much anymore. I just don't know what else I could do though.

Also (whispers) I would miss the school holidays🤣 but that's definitely not a reason to stay. Any ideas/advice/stories very gratefully received thank you.

Term time job in a school admin role.

Thank you for your reply. I don't have the necessary skills for admin unfortunately. I hope you are enjoying it 😊

I am a TA but interested in what ex TAs doing as well!

I work the evenings in a boarding school now my kids are older. No lesson planning, more of a home atmosphere but still there to do homework tasks etc with them. I find it so much better than full classroom work, and I still get the holidays!

As a qualified teacher, would you consider doing some hours with the National Tutoring Programme that is helping kids catch up after Covid?

I left 3 weeks ago for much the same reasons as you. Had been a reception T.A for 10 years and am gutted really but it is what it is.
I've found factory work to begin with. They are a lovely, family based business and have won awards for how they treat they're staff. I'm getting £500 a month more and working condensed shifts (12 hrs per day, week 1 = 3 days, week 2 = 4 days). I'm really enjoying it actually. There are ex teachers there and college technicians. The work is easy but physical and I feel like I have tons of time off. Hoping to move up through the ranks once I've learnt the basics.

And as a bonus I've not been bitten, kicked or hit in 3 weeks (was a daily occurance unfortunately).

Did you have to re train? Sounds interesting

No I didn’t need to re-train. They preferred candidates with experience in CS or education.

obviously there are different roles within CS so worth looking to see what appeals
