Terrible New School

During interview and transfer day all was pretty good, unfortunately real life at new school is horrible.
In the past 5 weeks I've encountered the worst behaviour I've ever seen. I don't think I can put up.with the daily student abuse, should I persevere or get out?

unless you can see a real effort from SLT to address it, get out. Poor behaviour tells you a lot about wider ethos / effectiveness.

Thank you. I've not cried in school for years but these kids have reduced me to tears

Get out. No job is worth crying for.
It’s not the kids though. It’s shit management.

What is the HT and SLT doing to support their staff to combat these issues? If they aren’t doing anything then it is a sign that leadership in the school is weak and I would start to look for other roles. The dilemma you are in right now is that there is only just a week to go of the October 31 deadline to leave at Christmas. Does your previous school have any vacancies? Would you consider doing supply for a couple of months until the right role comes up? If you do resign and leave at Christmas without a permanent role to go to, that gives you somewhat advantage to schools as you are ‘immediately available’ and given the ever increasing costs of supply, it would be more financially viable to employ a permanent replacement asap instead of paying an agency for a supply teacher which also has possible implications for learning.

Update for you, SLT are apparently being supportive by placing me on an 'unofficial' behaviour support plan.
Nothing has improved.
I need a hand hold to give my notice tomorrow.
I will do supply

I started at my school in April and I hate it. I handed in my notice at half term with nothing to go to. The end of term can't arrive soon enough. You are not alone. Best of luck tomorrow xxx

Call your union before you do anything else.

If you’re under red book conditions (most English state schools) and resign now, you might not be able to leave until Easter. That could be a painful few months.

With union support, you might be able to get proper help in school, get rid of the ‘support’ plan or negotiate an earlier release (and good reference).

Im sorry you’re in such a difficult position [hugs]

Sorry to hear you are in a difficult position. I wish you the best for the future. It seems to me that SLT are covering up their own failures.

smalbert · 18/11/2022 21:25

Thanks for your replies. I resigned today and am feeling relieved. My school is being decent and are considering to let me leave at February half term

'Behavioral support plan? Whose behaviour is being monitored: yours or the students? Sounds like you are being blamed here.

smalbert · 26/12/2022 22:23

They are meant to be supporting me to help deal with awful behaviour

What they say they are doing and what they actually intend may be two different things.
