I’m currently an experienced teacher on a 0.6 contract. Been at my current school for 14 years and have seen it go progressively downhill with new SLT etc and work/life balance just isn’t there. I’m off sick at the moment with stress, as are 2 other teachers, and those who aren’t are very unhappy.

A job has come up at the council within Education support which sounds ideal. It is predominantly working from home and hours can be condensed into 4 days, with flexible working really being promoted. It isn’t term time only though 😬 however money is the same.

To add to the stress, I am a lone parent to 2 DC under 6. I keep thinking of the holidays I would be giving up and therefore losing time with my DC but would WFH and no teaching pressure make me happier 🤷🏻‍♀️

Although I’m a lone parent, my mum is very supportive and has offered to help in the holidays, plus I’ll obviously have annual leave to fill some of the gaps.

Any advice would be great x

Do it, but ask first if they would consider TT only.

You will be amazed at the headspace you get back once you are out of a toxic school and you will be much happier. Make sure that you find ways to build social contact into your daily life as WFH can be lonely, especially if you are used to regular contact with students and a team.

Asking about the TT is a good idea, I suppose I worried that they would think I’m not committed if I asked - I think teaching has done that to me!

I did also worry about the loneliness of WFH but there will be days I’ll be required in the office and it seems I will have a lot of contact/discussions with schools etc too
