I’m no good at maths here - have I been underpaid?

Left my last school. Rate of pay was £25k per annum took home around 1550 a month. Here I’m meant to be on £29k and I’ve literally been paid just the exact same. Surely this is an error? It doesn’t look like we have anyone who can help onsite or at least I have no idea if we do. I’m thinking of running it past my manager tomorrow but obviously I don’t want to say pay is the issue

When moving school, you often 'start' where you would have stayed in September and then an increase is applied when applied to any other staff, after performance management reviews.

I have never known this to be the norm.

Makes no sense if I signed the agreed pay I should be given it

When I moved school, my PMR was completed by my original school and had to be given into my new school for my record. Assume you are an ECT on 2nd year if M2 - do you need to show any completion record of Year 1?

Lots of schools don't automatically move you up so you may need to provide something.

I had the opposite - I was put up a level so had to mention it pretty quick before they required me to pay it back!

Generally pay increases up the scale will always come in October or November and be backdated unless your HT is really hot and quick on the paperwork involved. The headteacher has to fill in a spreadsheet with all staff on stating if they are going up the scale so depends on how quick they have been on that. You will get it probably in the next pay. Totally normal. The 5% increase won't come until agreed which who knows when that would be now that unions are fighting it.

I’ll still double check anyway! Worth an ask seeing as I wasn’t given or shown a payslip. Also what’s happening with the unions is the strike actually happening?

The unions are currently balloting their memberships about strike action. I think NEU have already sent out the ballot so you should have had yours already if you are a member. I am NASUWT and expecting mine this week.

We don’t know yet because the ballot is the process of deciding. Members have to vote in favour of a strike for the union to call one.

Also check whether your tax code has changed from your last payslip - they may have put you on emergency tax as your salary has gone up. If that is the case, you'll get it back.

Absolutely. I moved jobs just before the strikes in 2011 and because the local office didn’t process my change of information my union told me that I therefore could not lawfully strike. I was furious.
