What should I look out for before I agree?

Would u be happy if u were that teacher?

Its SEN school of 4 possible 5 students aged 8 who are new to the school?

Every week or as a one off?
They will have to pay you as an unqualified teacher or HLTA for those days I think? Well they don't have to but I'd hold out for that.
Will you be following the teacher's planning? How much support will you have in class?

Every week. I been told the sessions will be planned I just need to run them and teach them and make sure filling done and parents updated etc i will have 2 ta with me . Every day is English and maths then 2 other subjects.

Its come about when i asked for a review of wages so i will hold out for more money . I do feel I will be given the role any way with no more pay if I hadn't said anything anyway .

I think that's outrageous. You're being paid as a TA and they're trying to use you as a teacher. They need to pay you on those days at an unqualified teacher rate. They have a cheek.

@Mycatisalesbiantranswoman

They are going to give me the fully offer tomorrow so my wages will go up .

Just worried about what the new teacher will think of the plan.she is doing a trial day tomorrow so will hopefully get to meet her.

The new teacher? Is that who you will be doing a job share with?

Who is teaching the class at the moment? Why is there a vacancy and how do plan to cover it long term. Heat extra tiring and support will you get. Who will do the planning and assessment? Do you want to go Onto teacher training?

All very alarming and to be honest I would run very fast in the opposite direction.

  • What extra training and support
notmrscookie · 04/10/2022 20:40

@mrsjimhopper it's a new class in the school. The school has grown by 2 classes.
A qualified teacher will plan and grade the work .I just need to teach it . There was a teacher in there till Monday as new students were part time so shared the other classes teacher but she is in other class fulltime.
I am in my late 40s so it doesn't make sense college grant wise to train and to be honest they are likely to push me to do a nvq level 3 or 4. I think.
To make matters more intresting we are undergoing Ofsted.
Having second thoughts already due to lack of staff who want to join the class.

Ok makes more sense. It still no. Did you approach them for a pay rise and they offered you this alternative role?

I don't think any teacher would plan cover for two days they don't work? I wouldn't be happy.

Ofsted will be gone soon as actaul inspections rarely last more than two days unless different in a special school. Ofsted pressure can last years if there is a problem.

It would be good experience if you wanted to train to teach. Where are they getting a teacher to start mid term? Is it a longer term supply. I don't think I'd want to be the job share with a supply teacher either as they work with no notice.

I wouldn’t be happy as a parent that my child wasn’t being taught English and maths by a qualified teacher. I say this as a HLTA.

Benjispruce4 · 04/10/2022 22:02

You’re being used OP. Don’t be flattered.
