Fed up with my teaching job

I have been teaching in a primary setting for around 11 years now and have become so jaded.

I went back to work part time after my DC was born and can't ever imagine going back to work full time although I will have to eventually for my pension.

My school is in a very affluent area but the children are so entitled and parents have a lot of involvement and say. There is very little discipline and behaviour management in the school and the pupils rule the roost.

I felt like this even before I had DC and consider asking for a move however I really like my colleagues. It is not just me who feels like this, I'd say more than half the staff in my school have low morale.

I really want a career change, something where I can leave my job at the door however this obviously comes with financial implications.

Has anyone else had a change or career or can give me advice on alternative routes still within teaching.

TIA

Solidarity your way ✊️

10 years in and I can't do it anymore. I feel trapped because I've poured so much time and energy into being good at my job. I'm at a good school, with decent results and good behaviour, but I just spend all of my time doing tick box paperwork and slt constantly wanting more from me. I'm teaching 2.5 hours extra than what I should be, plus an intervention session over a lunch and a revision class after school. I'm also running an international trip and mentoring an ect and a pgce. Yet today I got pulled up because I am not running a club this year and I haven't volunteered my time for a big charity event (all proceeds go to the school drama department- not even my subject!)

I'm at the stage where I don't want to do this anymore but I don't know what to do! If I leave, I'm also letting down my exam classes.

I think it's terrible that teachers are pushed to the point we feel like this. You sound like you're doing a lot more than expected.

I'm genuinely only sticking around for the pay and the holidays and is that a good reason?

It’s not a good reason to stay in a job, no. If you’re not happy it’s time to re evaluate. If you can, stick it out till summer, then think about alternatives
