Interview Advice

I am working at a school where the environment has gradually worsened to the extent that we lurch from one dramatic episode to another. Morale is low and although complaints are never about me I am getting tired of it. I am in the SLT so I am party to more information than most. I just want to come to school and teach without getting dragged into the heads office to watch her have a meltdown. I have decided to leave this toxicity as it is causing issues with my mental health but appreciate I will need to take a pay cut. What do I say in an interview to justify this backward step without looking unprofessional and moaning about my school.

Your real passion is for teaching and being in the classroom. Talk about why you love that rather than why you don’t like being SLT.

Talk about work life balance and the need to find your passion for teaching and more contact time with a class.
Say you want to focus on X specialist subject - or study Y or even focus on your own children.

Schools quite often get SLT stepping down they know the pressure
