Anyone else starting a new job in Sept?

I have just left the school I worked at for 6 years. This will be my second move as I worked somewhere else for 5 years before that.

I can't go into detail but the last few months were very stressful, however, I was otherwise happy and successful there.

I have a fantastic job as a HoD in a brand new school to go to in September. Induction days have been great and I'm so excited to have such a unique opportunity.

However, the nerves are starting to creep in! Which I know is perfectly normal but just wondered if anyone else is off to pastures new this year and if so, how are you feeling?

Yes! I'm starting my first ft teaching job since my dd was born 16 years ago Shock. I've been applying for ft jobs for a while and not been successful (not that surprisingly nobody seemed keen to pay UPS3 for someone who's not worked ft in that long!).

I was about to give up and start applying for non-education jobs (low level admin etc), then my absolute ideal school snapped me up, so I'm relieved I didn't get any of the others. Like you, I'm really excited but also a but scared!

Good luck both! What's your school like, @madnessitellyou ? Mine is a lovely, seemingly very civilised girls' grammar, which is going to be a treat after battling increasingly awful behaviour as a supply teacher for the last few years! My timetable is seriously full-on though <gulp>.

It's a tough school but I did a placement there and found amazing staff and a curriculum I'm excited to be delivering. Knowing the basics (photocopying!! Etc) helps but "going solo" is scary!

That's great! Mine is going to be challenging, but in a different way, I think. I imagine the marking load will be epic!

Me! First full time role in 14 yrs! No idea whether I can do it or not but we'll soon see. I've been teaching for 23 yrs but gave up responsibility and went part time when I had my girls. 17 yrs at my first school, then 6 at my old one and now feeling like the newbie again!

Its supposed to be a nice school and I've almost no commute (after a long drive for the last 23 yrs) which was the attraction of the job - but only time will tell!!

The much shorter commute will probably make a big difference.

I'm always in awe of people who do long commutes - I'm a lazy mare who has only ever done 20 mins on local roads 😂

I'll have a 30 min commute. Dh and I will be car sharing though, which will be nice! He has a new job too, in the same city, so he'll be dropping me off. He's just left teaching after 23 years!

I am looking forward to the 10 mins rather than the 80mins it usually took! I worked out that I could be paid to work in the same amount of time that I'd previously been travelling and I wouldn't be any worse off, in fact quite a lot better off!! 20 mins for you is just enough time to switch off I reckon! Exciting times in a new school! Is it primary or secondary?

And @Fairislefandango not sure I could car share with anyone to be honest but you'll be able to relax a bit if DH is driving and it will definitely save money! What is you DH doing now? You mentioned making load, is your new role teaching English?

I am moving to Alternative Provision and leaving mainstream teaching. Looking forward to less marking and no exam pressure. And behaviour may be crazy, I know, but at least it will be expected and supported.

@June2008 it is exciting- it's a brand new secondary school so we'll only have Y7 for the first year. I'm excited to get started, but naturally, the nerves are creeping in!

Good luck, @phlebasconsidered - I guess the difficult behaviour must seem quite different in that context, especially compared with some mainstream schools which are in denial about theirbehaviour issues and fail to support their teachers. I have recent experience of that, unfortunately!

Wow @PumpkinPie2016 - that adds a whole other level of novelty and excitement! Kind if cool for those kids too, being the very first cohort and getting to make the place their own!

Hi all! I’m a seasoned teacher taking a step away from SLT and going full time teaching in 4 days time!
I start in a new school - was excited at interview but a bit disappointed on the induction day so now I’m feeling super nervous!
Specifically if it’s disorganised and it was just a show to recruit! Arghhh

Oh good luck @Sodiumchloride ! I hope it's better than it appeared from induction day. My dh had been thinking about stepping down from SLT to FT teaching (possibly in a special school), but in the end a different opportunity came up and he's left teaching altogether. I think he's missing it a bit in some ways though!

I'm also moving- it feels like a really positive move in the sense that it's sort of career progression and a role I'm excited about. But I also really needed to get out of my last school.

I'm feeling pretty nervous about it at the moment, though!

I start a new school and relocation on Monday. Tbh am more worried about my children settling in well to their new schools than I am right now about my new job.

My first day is Mon but I popped in for a couple of hours yesterday and today to get set up - it's very exciting!

I will definitely update after Mon and look forward to hearing how everyone else has got on!

Yes, I started in a new job last week, after teaching 'online' for the past couple of years. Such was the demand by private students that I found myself teaching 7 days a week! So being back in the classroom is a welcome change :)

My circumstances are perhaps a little different to most. I'm a British teacher, but working at an international school in the city of Yangon, (Rangoon) in Myanmar (Burma). There's a civil war here, and many local and expat teachers have left the country. I've taught in this country for about 6 years and love the people and culture. So I decided to return...

Oh, just to add to the intrigue, I'm male, 63 years old and teaching KG grades > about 5 years old :)

Good luck @smalbert - I hope the relocation and the job both go well! We relocated from one end of England to the other 8 years ago with dc aged 6 and 9.

Hope yours is going well @TeacherSimon - sounds like an interesting place to be!

I had my two INSET days Thursday and yesterday. They went really well in that everyone seems lovely and we got lots of non-meeting time to get ourselves sorted. My brain felt totally fried by 4pm yesterday though, with information overload! I start actually teaching on Monday, but am lucky to start with a free morning up to break time, as I have no tutor group!

@PumpkinPie2016 it was lots of meetings and not enough time for prep and planning!
It was mostly new staff induction and safeguarding so had to be done!
I feel like I’m already behind!

Glad those who have started have had goof days!

My first day today went really well - lots of meetings so my head is completely fried but I am excited by it all.

Sure I will be asleep very soon 😴 😅
