Private work for a child who I work with

I work as a TA in a year 2 class and we have one child with a EHCP so I am predominantly her 1-1 although my contract states I am a classroom TA.

This child has made amazing progress and she has just started to string words together and has started to be able to do simple work tasks like add up and recognise letters.

After school a couple of weeks ago her mum waited for me and asked me if I would be willing to come to their house a couple of hours a week during the holidays as her daughter has made so much progress, not to look after her but just to keep the familiarity as I will be her 1-1 again next year. Up until the beginning of July she hardly spoke and never did any type of work at all but literally these last 2 weeks something has clicked. Her mum had twins 3 months ago so would really appreciate the help. She just wants me to do a few simple tasks with her and keep her familiarity with me so when she goes up to year 3 if she has seen me over the holidays it may not be such a shock for her as going into a new class with a new teacher will be really hard for her.

My question is is this allowed. As it is a school family am I breaking my contract by doing private work for them.

Also can my daughter who is 17 babysit for another school family?

I have had people tell me neither is allowed and I could be sacked.

Does anyone know what the rules are??

Hi I work 1:1 for a child in year 1. I am also employed as a P.A to work with this child outside of school hours. I was advised I had to inform my head but school were fine about it. It is great consistency for the child and great to build that connection with the family. I had to have a separate DBS check done by my local council and am only insured to look after the child at their home. I only do around 8 hours a week and only in school holidays. If its something you are happy to do I would say go for it, just inform the school of your intention.

@folly115 I would advise you to inform the Head and get her approval!

Sorry I should of explained- some Heads allow it and some don't- hence asking the Head and getting the approval prior to committing.
