Coping with abuse from students

I work in a residential SEMH school, so the children are some of the most vulnerable in the country.

As part of their trauma, they sometimes target adults verbally as well as physically. It's all dealt with professionally by the staff but I'm still finding it really hard at times.

I was badly bullied as a child and sometimes the things the students I work with trigger the pain of that in the things they say.

I'm not looking for "solutions" here, I'm just venting I guess and wondering if anyone could relate?

You do need to be incredibly thick skinned to work with traumatised children. Unfortunately they often try to make others around them feel the way they feel (chaotic, hurt and confused) they need adults who are strong and can remain regulated when they are not.
It's a tough but worthwhile job.
Make sure you have many outlets and strategies for calming yourself in the long and short terms.
It must be amazing when you see them succeed and turn around though?
