Exit interviews?

How honest would you be for an exit interview? Apart from that obvious safeguarding concerns that I am raising, shall I just do the standard “moving on to another opportunity thanks for the experience and support” kind of responses?

I feel because there are too many teachers that know other teachers and HR is always for the company, is it really worth wasting my breath?

It depends, are exit interviews common practice at your school or have you had a sudden influx of leavers that's initiated it? I think exit interviews are supposed to supine retaining staff, so I would be honest but depending on the reason for leaving but it can be put in a professional light rather than an accusatory.

Is it worth it though? Like is ir really worth trying when they’re never going to do anything with that info because leadership won’t change

I didn’t think there was a job opening at your current school? In which case, better just to say “there wasn’t a vacancy here so I looked elsewhere” rather than burn bridges.

Yeah so many people have said sometimes exit interviews aren’t worth it because you never want to get into the heat of the moment and potentially burn bridges. I’ve contemplated cancelling it completely

Tempting as it is to get it all off your chest, I would avoid it.

Just stick to 'moving on to broaden experience in a different setting".

Especially if you are staying in the same area- people talk!

I chose to keep my mouth shut and withdrew because honestly it’s never worth it. I went for a drink with my colleages for our leaving do the other week and he just said “I went crazy on mine, I said it’s badly structured management, no one has interest in the feelings of others” and so on and so fourth. Even though he’s moving up north I did think it’s still a very risky game being so honest considering you just never know when you’ll know someone who might be recruiting for a job you really want!

In summary I took the advice and just figured they won’t care for my opinion so I’ll rant to my friends instead!😂

They don't care.
