PGCE worth it, or just QTS?

Am doing QTS with PGCE, but my QTS teacher seems quite negative about pgce, and said it’s only worthwhile if you want to work abroad. I feel its always worth it to get an extra qualification? She says it doesn’t make you more employable in the Uk. Is this true?
I’m going to do it anyway as I really enjoying studying and it’ll just be one year of pain, but just wanted to ask a second opinion.

In Scotland you need a PGCE to teach, I believe.

Well your mentor doesn’t seem to think that learning is “worth” it for it’s own sake so they’re not really worth listening are they? If you think you’ll find learning about and researching pedagogy interesting and useful, then go for it. I can understand them pointing out the cons (i.e. more work) and they might be right about career prospects, but to say it’s not “worth it” and be overtly negative seems an odd perspective for an educator to have. You’ll be learning about learning, what’s so useless about that?

@ToadiesCouzin Thanks for the reply. Yes looking at the modules it looks really interesting and useful.

I did PGCE with QTS. Definitely worth it ime.

I don’t think it makes you more employable but I would do it if I’d find it interesting which you said you would. I would personally take the shortest route, no one cares when you’re actually teaching how you got there.

Thank you for the replies. I was also curious…not sure if anyone knows this, but the course is the same price regardless of whether or not you do the PGCE, even though it’s with different providers - does anyone know why that is? Does the TT course provider have to pay the Uni out of the fees? I know if doesn’t really matter, but I am just interested in how it works.
