QTS theory research

Hi there,

I am considering teacher training and wondered if before I make this big decision can anyone tell me what sort of theory is involved in the QTS year.

Could anyone tell me the main elements in terms of what educational theories of teaching make up the content. How many assignments etc...
I am thinking that looking into some of this before, might help me decide if it is something I want to do.

I currently work in a secondary school doing cover, so on the classroom experience side I have quite a bit of knowledge behind me.

Many thanks in advance.

I'm relatively new to teaching so can well remember the PGCE.

Two assignments, masters level so lots reading. You'll read things, agree with them, or disagree with them, and sometimes what happens in schools doesn't reflect trends (it will). Ime you can theorise as much as you like but it's a world away from standing in front of a room full of kids teaching.

I've done cover too and it's completely different. Have you spoken teachers in your current setting?

Thank you. Yes, I have spoken a bit with some of the teachers. They say the same, that cover and teaching are very different. Sadly I feel like cover is putting me off pursuing it though. You see the worst bits when you do last minute cover!

Oh I definitely agree! Cover is very difficult.
