Approaching retirement

I've been given the opportunity to go on a great course. The problem is it's very expensive. The school is paying, that's not the issue. I am planning to retire at the end of the next academic year and I don't want the school to feel that they've wasted their money. I love the school and SLT. Just don't want to tell SLT yet about my plans.
Any thoughts?

Why do you want to do the course? I probably wouldn't tbh, if you retire having just completed the course, the school have wasted their money. Money that could be better spent on other things, or on someone else to do that course who may stick around. Yes, anyone could leave after going on a course for any reason. However you know you're leaving, and you're not staying in teaching, so is it even of benefit to you? If you care about the school, I don't think it's the right thing to do, sorry OP.

Totally not fair...schools are strapped for cash as it is! Why would you even consider this if you are leaving?? They would have completely wasted loads of money and have to spend it again to send someone else!! Don't be that person!

Hang on.

The OP just does not want to share her private plans with SLT before she needs to.

Then she comes up with another excuse for not being able to go
