We were sent some info in our pigeonholes about NPQLT portal. I’m interested although I’m only an NQT, do I need some more years before I show interest?

I asked the team lead but he wasn’t too detailed in terms of what it alludes to and how to enroll? Could anyone else advice please?

It's far too early to be thinking about NPQs when you've not completed ECT.

Thats why I asked the question.

I think that you can apply for an NPQ when you have been teaching for a minimum of 2 years.

Yeah I managed to have a chat about it with my manager in the end we had a good chat about it!

in terms of 2 years of teaching does that include ECT years or exclude?

I don’t know, I’m sorry! Good luck for when you do start it 👍🏻

It's up to the head to decide whether to support your application. We have a cohort of 10 starting NPQ in the autumn. None has less than 5 years of experience.

Snowflakewater · 28/06/2022 21:39

That’s at your heads discretion then. I don’t think any good head teacher is going to either hold staff back from progression or support an application for someone who needs a lot more experience.

The school I’m at are very pro cpd and pro progression. The head has always made it clear that progression is something they advocate and they’ll actively help in terms of suggesting CPD or allowing staff to go on courses that lend themselves to progression.

Every head teacher is different.

Won’t be until I feel like I’ve had enough experience I was just interested!

You're missing my point. NPQ applications have to be supported by the head. They have to write a reference, effectively.
My own view - that of someone who has been involved in teacher education, induction and professional development for considerably more than a decade - is that the primary focus of a new teacher in their first few years (certainly more than 2) should be honing their pedagogy and practice.
Courses are one thing. An NPQ is a different beast.

A fair viewpoint.
