Does anyone know the duration an invigilator can/should invigilate for? My longest is 3 hours and just sat doing nothing other than watch is so boring i often feel like dozing off. It's very different from when i started teaching in the 90's. You cant do anything but watch. 3 hours of this is too much, surely?

its pretty standard. I often think to myself that I’m getting paid for doing nothing , which can’t be bad.
It’s not so bad in a large venue as you can walk around. I was one to one today in a small room. I use it as mental planning time for life stuff. I also like to think that what invigilators do is important in that we facilitate the exams that help students make their way in the world.

3 hours is pretty normal imo. I invigilated throughout the public exams and am now doing the year 10 exams. It's certainly tedious. If I'm in a small room with a few kids I talk to myself in my head in Spanish Grin for practice. In the main exam hall you're expected to walk around. Fortunately I have a high boredom threshold!

Perfectly normal. I don't think there's a set time limit - at least I've never heard of one. I've done 3.5 hours before...
