Primary PGCE summer reading

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any reading recommendations for someone starting a Primary PGCE in September?
I have emailed my course provider and not heard back, thought some teachers might have some good books to suggest. I have the summer off work so want to make the most of my time.

Learning to Teach in the Primary School (Learning to Teach in the Primary School Series) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1138211060/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_YA792N0YXTBW4GYJY6NZ

This one tends to be on the lists.

As much children's fiction as you possibly can, in different genres including poetry. The summer before my PGCE I went to the big library in town each week and took out books by authors I'd never read before. The first 6 had surnames beginning with A, B, C, D, E and F. Then when I'd read them, I got G, H - you get the idea.

Turned out one of the expectations of the course was to read children's books as widely as possible so not only did I discover some fabulous new authors, I had a flying start.

Ah thats interesting, I would never have thought to do that, thanks.

Include picture books, traditional tales from around the world, classic children's fiction as well as books by contemporary authors. The more you read now, the better!

Thank you, I’m a nursery nurse already so pretty good on early years pre-reading /phonics, but TERRiFIED that all the maths has changed so much since I was at school and I will have to re-learn it all - that’s so useful

I'm no expert as I'm in the same situation as you, but I've bought Learning to Teach in the Primary School and have read through Rosenshine's principles of instruction (mainly because the school I currently work in, which is actually secondary, is very much adopting this method). I read how to be an outstanding primary school teacher before my interview and have take control of a noisy class room on my kindle (which was only 99p) which looks like more of an occasional pick up rather than front to back read.
I've also been listening to children's audiobooks on my current commute, which I've enjoyed doing.
One tip is if your looking to buy books used, to get them new they are extortionate, but I've picked up most of mine second hand on Vinted or eBay current editions, for a lot less.
Best of luck for next year.

It's not - the maths curriculum is back to all the old methods you'd have learnt at school, assuming your older than perhaps 25. Column addition and subtraction etc. It was all the grid multiplication and chunking that we did a few years ago that people thought was "new maths".
