Year 11

We’re having to teach year 11 still even though exams have started. The problem for me is that if they have exams the next day they would rather revise that subject than learn mine.

Is anyone else’s year 11 class talking all the time and messing about even though their exams are imminent?? They are so effing rude — they are making me miserable and I’m taking out on people at home.

Yes, yes, yes! The were horrible today, but no study leave at my school.

Same here. Tuesday was horrendous. Put hours into planning an extended (1.5 hours) pre exam lesson but they were not remotely interested. They were so rude that I ended up falling out with some students that I’ve had a really good working relationship with for 2 years. Not a good vibe in the midst of public exams.
The person who made the decision to cancel study leave and keep year 11 in lessons should have to teach them!
Next week I am going to make a resource, put it in front of them and say they can either do the task or have other revision out. I will certainly not be trying to teach a proper lesson again for the sake of my own sanity.

We're running a hybrid model. Some days, they're pulled from lessons for revision for other subjects so we're not getting the requests to revise for whatever. It's a pain in the arse, but better than the other option of having to argue about it.

Just to give the other perspective, my son is doing GCSE's at the moment and is finding it really tough being expected to go into a lesson straight after the intensity of an exam, which may be a subject that he doesn't have an exam in until the end of June. He'd much rather spend the time revising for the exam he's got next, and actually have a bit of down time as well.
I'm a teacher myself and nothing excuses rudeness, but I can kind of sympathise as well.

Totally get that @mamaduckbone
This keeping Y11 in lessons nonsense is doing more harm than good to the students. Exam season means exam season, not lessons!
If I was a parent I would be claiming stress induced illness and keeping them at home except for exams.

We're expected to be in our rooms during the times Y11 and Y13 would have had lessons with us, and they can drop in to go through stuff if they want. We can get on with work if no one shows, and once our exam has passed we wouldn't expect to see them again. If they want to work at home, or in the library, they can.

That sounds like a balanced approach.

That sounds like a balanced approach.

It is pretty sensible and I am happy to be available as and when I'm needed until their exam has passed.
