Supply teaching and your pension

I have come to the conclusion that I need to leave my school. I am SLT and despite many years at my present school for the sake of my mental health I have to leave. I am scared about the future as I will need to get another job and this will mean a huge pay cut. I might try supply teaching or even a maternity cover if not I will look for something outside of teaching but goodness knows what!
If I was to do supply teaching I presume your pension contributions stop. But if I did a temporary contract such as maternity cover would the school pay towards your pension? Can someone explain how it works please!

If you are employed and paid directly by a school whether it's an academy or LA school then you will pay into TPS.
If you work via a supply agency they will enrol you into their own scheme unless you opt out.
So in a nutshell get a contracted post directly with a school if you can!

Just to add it doesn't matter if it's a temporary contract or maternity cover or whatever. Any direct work should be pensionable.

Thank you. That's really helpful.
