Hi all,

Wanted to ask people's thoughts... I've recently take on a DHT role in a school out of area and in a slightly different provision ... however, due to personal reasons and my own future professional outlook I don't think it is for me. I plan on staying slightly over a year to give it my best, but am leaning towards moving back to my previous area and provision ... which isn't really that long a time. I've always been at previous schools minimum 3 years and well just wondering how it would look on resume... or if anyone else has had any experience of something similar?

Thanks

I swear I’ve seen this before🤔

Also, trust your gut, and if you can’t do that, do what’s best by you.

I don’t think it’ll look bad on a CV. But we also need to normalise instances where jobs are not right for us! The fit needs to work both ways, and when it doesn’t work out then you shouldn’t feel like you have to tolerate a job just so it looks ok on a CV. And if a future school did have a problem with it (which they won’t) would you really want to work in that kind of school anyway?

OutDamnedSpot · 07/05/2022 09:09

I have a ‘blip’ on my CV where I only stayed in a school for 18 months (and would have left sooner if I could!) If asked, I just politely say “it wasn’t the school for me”.

good luck finding something else. It’s horrible being in a school you don’t like.

Thanks everyone, appreciated... I'm definitely leaning towards moving on as soon as I can... bit of an awkward time of year so will be at least until after Christmas when I can start properly looking - will be an awkward conversation at work but in the end have to do what's best.. thanks again for all your inputs

Sorry don't think I can offer much advice as I feel I am in a similar situation. Have been in current post for less than a year and considering moving on. On paper it is the ideal opportunity but in reality very grim - over promoted and inexperienced colleagues emulating their 'image' of leadership.

I'm quietly looking through the vacancies; nothing really for a September start but I think I can hold out until January. You know when it is time to go. See it as a new chapter. You and I have plenty to offer and will thrive in the correct environment. Wishing you the best.

sth85 · 09/05/2022 07:49

Thanks! Good (well not good, but you get what I mean) that I'm not the only one in this situation. I don't think I could go for a September start either... that would be too soon I feel, however I am going to be more pro-active looking for January onwards... am going to have the 'chat' with my head just before the half term as I feel I should be upfront - even if it does lead to an awkward possible term or so.. wishing you the best as well

How are you doing? What did you decide to do?

sth85 · 31/10/2022 08:28

Hey

So I have spoken to my headteacher to confirm I am looking to leave April/Sept. They understood (due to my role also was asked to speak to governors). So basically in the searching phase (realising not much will be out until jan onwards but at least I have a plan). I've also decided I don't want my current role level necessarily, so will be looking for something SENCO/AHT level depending on school size etc. How are you getting on?

Hi well done for having that conversation with your headteacher. I am quietly still looking but definitely not returning in September 2023.

petitescience · 03/11/2022 19:35

I’ve been in my current post for just over a year, however today I had a conversation with the head as I have seen a job advertised starting at Easter which is really ideal for me. It’s certainly not the most comfortable conversation to have but I feel real weight off my shoulders, as I hope the both of you do!

TortolaParadise · 09/02/2023 22:38

How are you all doing?
No long now till Easter.

petitescience · 10/02/2023 06:35

I got the job I applied for so will be moving schools at Easter.

Will be sad to leave my current secondary school as I do love it there, but really excited to start a new chapter at a middle school!

Went for my induction this week and it really cemented that it’s the right decision.

Thanks for checking in on us! 😊

TortolaParadise · 07/05/2023 19:49

How are you settling in?

petitescience · 08/05/2023 08:06

Hiya

All great here thank you for asking! Easter was an odd couple of weeks with a lot of mixed feelings, and then I did two days at my new school before going off with Covid for the rest of the week!!

However am feeling much more settled now - classes I’ve taken over haven’t had a consistent teacher since autumn so they’ve been challenging for the large part but the staff are very supportive and fed I’ve found my feet now.

Only thing they’re expecting Ofsted at any point (my old school had one at Christmas) - two in one year will be fun!!

How are you doing? Have you found anything that you want to apply for?
