losing TLR

Hi, I’ve just been told that my role will be changing in September and therefore I’ll no longer be entitled to the TLR- my current job will no longer exist. One week from the Easter hols means I’ve missed most deadlines for new September posts. I’m going to lose £7k from my salary and won’t be able to afford my mortgage etc and no time to do anything about it! Is this allowed?

Sorry to hear you're in this situation - you must be shocked!

Firstly, you have until May 31st to resign to leave at the end of August, so there is still time to secure a new post if you wish. I don't know what stage or subject you teach but certainly in some subjects, there are still lots of jobs coming up.

I don't know about the legalities of it but someone else may. Are you in a union? If so, I would speak to them for some advice.

Think you need union advice, but this would suggest the sum is protected for 3 years;

Thank you for your responses.

I’m ideally looking for a leadership post within SEN, so it’s quite limited, although you’re right, not all hope is lost, I do still potentially have time to find something - thank you.

I have spoken to my union today and they should get back to me with further advice next week. I think the protection stands from when you are given the TLR which was just over 3 years ago 😬 Nothing is clear.

I will hopefully know more next week, but I’m going to spend the weekend stressing!!

Thank you- that does give me a bit of hope! Some of the guidance seems contradictory, I think I just need to wait for union advice.

I presume it's a TLR1? The pay protection starts from when they end the role, not when you start it.

Thanks, that makes sense, hopefully it will buy me a bit more time if it is safeguarded. It’s TLR 2.

From past experience of colleagues it’s 3 years from it ceasing to exist. I’ve even known the job to change, people to not reapply and still get the three years protection so you should definitely be entitled to it.
