Good Afternoon,

I am hoping one of you well-read lot might have the thing I am looking for. Flowers

I need a long short story, not too controversial, that can be split into six chunks /preferably even cliff hangers, to be read over the course of a day in 5 minute slots.

So a 30 minute read. Although I can work round a 20 minute one probably.

Sadly, cannot be Lamb To The Slaughter (Dahl) as they already know it.

I thought about The Lottery Shirley Jackson.

Edgar Allen Poe probably will not hold their attention.

Clive Barker, even edited, would be too gory.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance Wine

I don't know what age you're reading to but Paul Jennings's short stories (especially from the book 'Unmentionable') are often split into very short chapters and have mini cliffhangers. Year 5/6 have loved them but it might be a bit young for secondary school.

Same story to whole school 11-16
Thanks both, but needs to be older Flowers

One of the Sherlock Holmes stories perhaps? Some are only about 10 pages long.

I'm still thinking! Are either of the following any good?
The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde This is already split into 7 mini chapters. The longest chapter is about 5 pages long but several are only one or two pages
The curious tale of Dr Jeckel and Mr Hyde. I don't have a copy to hand so can't check the length of this one.

The Last Leaf by O Henry (ancient but memorable). Or maybe his The Gifts of the Magi.

The Monkey's Paw I think it's called? X

Oh, thank you. I am off to read them all now.
Much appreciated x
