Hi,
I’m looking to change track in work from teaching ESOL/ support (adults and college) to working in creative subjects: art, design, art history…
I wondered if anyone has trained to teach the arts award and whether you’d recommend this.
I have a degree in history of art and practical knowledge and experience eg. Painting, ceramics…
I’m going to start studying again in Sept, I just feel the need to start on some training after the COVID break in things.
I don’t currently have much time to eg. Volunteer, though that may change.

At my DCs school, Arts award is taught by their art/DT teachers, not a specific arts award instructor. Is it delivered in FE colleges?

I used to do these. To deliver arts awards you have to set up a center at your workplace. Sometimes that's a school and sometimes an arts org. I worked on the arts org side and there are lots of ways to get them through it, especially the Discover and Explore levels. I did find it difficult to find enough time for the practical work to be done.

I think it would probably be best to find the type of job you want and have them put you through arts award training if that's something they're interested in. To be honest in my opinion there are a lot of ways to be involved with the arts without arts awards. When I was in the midst of it, it felt like it was mainly paperwork.
