HLTA hours/pay

Hi everyone, really hoping for some advice/insight. I have been offered a HLTA post 2 days a week in a primary school. The hours are 9 til 3.30 (same as children). I assumed that meant no planning/marking for me as when would I do it? However they have informed me that I am expected to do those things but would need to find time after school. Is it acceptable for me to say I would like paying 8.30 til 4.15 so that I am paid for the time it takes me to set up in the morning and plan/mark/liase with teachers after school? I am an ex teacher and this just seems cruel to expect a person on such low pay to do those things free of charge! Opinions please? Smile

Our HLTAs get the same PPA time as teaching staff. So 2 days teaching would give you about an hour PPA depending on the structure of your day etc. You could ask for this to be added.

Thanks! Do they get paid from the children coming in or do they get prep time before school?

8.30 until 3.30 so, 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the children. Not brilliant and they do more than that but it's all we can afford!

I’m employed as a HLTA and am also a former teacher. I don’t get PPA, I am paid for an extra 50 minutes once the children have left but in relativity once all the marking and general stuff is done, there is little time for prep for cover. I tend to do this at home. Sadly, that is just how it seems to be. I at least am paid for a bit longer, the TAs tend to stay a bit over their hours and the 1-2-1 spend a couple of hours a few times a week prepping stuff for interventions which is really beyond their remit.
