WWYD : my child has covid and I work with vulnerable children

Hello,

One of my daughters has tested positive for Covid. My other daughter and myself are negative at the moment.

I'm a single mum who relies on my parents for childcare. They have said they're happy to have my covid positive daughter during the day for her isolation period (as they are vaccinated and keen to help).

Staffing is incredibly tight and my class will not be covered, leaving it very tricky for my team at school.

My daughter is asymptomatic for the time being.

Would you stay at home? It sounds like a daft question but knowing what impact it will have if I'm not at work makes me feel irrationally guilty!

I work in an SEN class where all of the students are vaccinated but 3 are vulnerable.

However if I do go in and then test positive later in the week, some of my staff are not vaccinated and will have to isolate too, if they come in to contact with me.

I just need some views on this. I know it sounds silly/ there's an obvious answer, but I need someone to put my mind at ease!

Thank you for any comments x

I think it depends on how old your daughter is (is she old enough to keep your parents safe by wearing a mask, staying in another room etc), and how old and vulnerable your parents are. Saying this as someone whose had Covid twice now and felt utterly miserable both times, despite being triple vaxed).

If you aren’t worried about your parents then I would follow government advice, which means testing each morning and going to work.

Thank you for your reply. She's 9 years old.

I have decided to take the time off. I wouldn't forgive myself if I wasn't there for my daughter when she's poorly or we passed it on to my parents - when it could've been prevented.

Thank you again x

Are the 3 vulnerable or CEV?

Huge difference. "Vulnerable" doesn't seem to be given a great deal of significance post vaccine, especially in children.
