Move on or hope Headteacher does?!

Unfortunately our new Headteacher seems to be a bit of an arsehole! I was in the privileged position of working for quite a decent Headteacher for a number of years, but now I'm increasingly unhappy at my current school. It's a shame, it was a great school, and my colleagues and students are still great, but sadly more and more staff are now leaving. I can mostly cope with the changes that they have made to the school, even if they increase workload and stress for no perceivable benefit, and nothing has got so bad for me personally that I want to quit. But they have treated some staff very badly, and staff are leaving, the unfairness of some of the things that they have done is getting to me a bit, I don't like working for bad people! Do I just stick with it and hope the Headteacher eventually leaves and is replaced with a decent one? Is your Headteacher a good person, or is not liking your boss just normal and to be expected and something you just put up with?! I really don't want to leave and find I end up in a school that's just as bad or worse.

Honestly, jump ship. I’ve been in this position and it was hell. It will be your turn soon enough to be bullied!

Hmm, I completely get what you mean @Seashor, but although I don't like the Headteacher, they don't seem to be a bully, it's not quite that bad. If they were a bully, I'd definitely quit! It's more just unfair or unethical behaviour, and some staff have had enough and left. Doing extra stuff for free on the promise of a promotion that doesn't materialise (or goes to someone else), permanent contracts applied for and only temporary offered, that sort of thing. Is that just par for the course or an indication of worse to come? The stuff which really impacts me is all the stuff which increases workload and stress, they don't seem to give a fig about staff wellbeing. Am I being nieve in expecting them to?

Leave.

It won't get better. It'll probably get worse. You might end up in the firing line on day. The head may be there for years.

Leave.
