How do I drop my TLR?

Umma20 · 05/01/2022 19:07

I've returned from maternity and don't have the time to dedicate to my tlr anymore. Ideally I'd like to drop it with immediate effect, but I can't see any information about a notice period. Noone else will be taking on the post. Any ideas anyone? Thanks

You will need to speak to the head. If you have extra non contact time for it, they'll likely want to give you more to do in that time.

You can’t drop a TLR unless your HT agrees. Its part of your job so you need to resign from the whole post.

Speak to your line manager or head. Somebody will have to do the TLR work, so it would be ideal if you could come up with some ideas for that.
Of course it is possible to drop a TLR without resigning!

I did this for similar reasons to you I think. I had to write a letter of resignation from my TLR post and work my notice, then I returned to main scale. Luckily there was a natural vacancy for me to fill. I suggest you talk to the head and go from there.

It isn't possible to just drop it without the agreement of the Head. The post in conjunction with your other work is the 'post'. Your only 'right' is to resign both...however, most Heads would or should be sympathetic to your change in circumstances and look to find ways to allow you to do what you want. You need to speak with them about it.

On a side issue, bear in mind the effect it could have on your final salary pension. Dropping your salary will have an effect, as the name implies, on your 'final salary' pension and that, given that McCloud is allowing many to revert their service up to this April to the scheme, could be significant.

Taking the first month out of the TPS if you successfully lose the TLR could lead to a better final salary pension.

Thanks for all your replies. The head has already agreed I can drop it - certainly no need to resign. The issue was that neither she nor I knew whether there was an expected notice period. I appreciate all of your help with my question.

In my school you give notice in lines with the normal resignation dates. So a terms notice to give up your TLR.
