This is my 2nd year teaching and I’m currently on a temporary contract. I know that I’m more passionate about early years - it is right for me. I have covered a nursery teacher post and volunteered in nurseries before/during my degree which was great, but I’m now being offered 2 jobs and I don’t know what to do.
Job 1:
Temporary early years teacher in various locations in a council further from home (40-50 min commute minimum). It’s the same pay as I’m on now and is term time/typical teaching hours.
•Concerns: temporary with no guarantee of work after it, nursery teachers are being phased out in most LAs, further to travel
Job 2:
Permanent job as a nursery practitioner. This is in a fixed location and is local to where I live (20-30 minute commute). It’s slightly less money per year, working hours are shifts between 8-6pm and it’s year round.
•Concerns: year round working, am I shooting myself in the foot leaving class teaching so early in my career, despite not enjoying it at this stage?
What would you choose?
