Returning to work

I am returning to work at the start of January following maternity leave.
I have found out today that the flexible working request I made in August has been rejected so I will be required to return to work full time.
I know I have to work 13 weeks to avoid repaying my enhanced pay but am a bit confused over notice period as I have never left a school at any point other than the end of the Summer term.
Am I right in thinking that, if a hand my notice in now, I will have to work until the end of Spring term?
Thanks

Essentially it's notice by half term to leave at the end of the term. So October half term for Christmas departure etc.

As you've missed October half term it's not Feb half term for end of spring term departure.

You may be able to negotiate though. Talk to your headteacher.

On what grounds? They should have a good reason that meets certain criteria. Have you spoken to your union? You have a right to appeal.

Yes I would appeal it first

I would echo the call to appeal (with support from your union). If they're being dicks about it then hand your notice in as late as possible (i.e. February to leave at Easter).

13 weeks from returning in Jan will take you to end of Spring term anyway.

Yes, it took me a while to realise this. Probably longer than it should have!

I have appealed and raised grievance also as having read the policy again, they haven't followed the procedure. I have also contacted my union but I'm not sure how long to expect to wait to hear back.
