Reception teachers - writing/letter book recommendations?

My three year old is very interested in writing her first letters and I was wondering if there are any wipe clean letter books that any reception or early years teachers would recommend? Or any recommendations at all in terms of where to start?

As a secondary teacher myself I’m conscious of not teaching her any misconceptions with regards to writing cursive etc. before she’s even reached school!

Try finding a workbook.

I did find lots on Amazon but there seems to a wide variety of how letter writing is taught (I.e what order to draw the letter in). I’d read on a previous thread before that it was sometimes frustrating for teachers having to re-teach a primary child this- although I may be wrong.

There's been a move away from cursive in the new revised EYFS curriculum.

@Weredone what is most important for pre writing is the direction she goes in. Lots of anti-clockwise circles so that when she’s doing letters she goes the right way. If I was teaching them separately from phonics, I’d start with her name (they should be able to write that by the end of nursery) and then look at the letter families. If you think she’s ready you could look at a sound at a time (Alphablocks is awesome for this) and then practice those.

Thank you so much @Barbie222 @MamaTutu2 that’s really helped! She knows her letter sounds and can recognise her written name so will start with teaching her name. I’ll look for a book which describes what you’ve suggested.

@MamaTutu2 alphablocks is a great idea as she already loves watching that! Have found a good phonics based book- thanks again
