So today a (new) member of SLT told me I was F useless at teaching and should F* right off out of here.
I have yet to speak to the head as he was out today, although I suspect bhe will back up SLT person. Do I speak to governors or am I meant to just put up with this?

That’s awful. Contact your union now. Do not attend any meetings about this without a union rep.

Yellowmellow2 · 29/09/2021 18:39

Shockingly unacceptable. Phone your union ASAP. I just can’t believe that people behave like this.

MrsHamlet · 29/09/2021 18:44

Contact your union immediately.
They will want you to write a clear statement about what and when and why, so I would suggest doing that now. If anyone else was witness to it, make a note of that but do not speak to anyone in school about it without union support.
I would also get this thread removed

Outrageous
Formal complaint. I would email head and your union rep tonight.

AttaGirrrrl · 29/09/2021 19:05

What?! Wow.
I agree. Write down exactly what happened - including the exact wording - and email the head teacher and your union rep (separately).

BitterTits · 29/09/2021 19:14

Never, ever heard the like of it. It's grotesque.

hels71 · 29/09/2021 20:20

Thank you all.

That is awful.
Too many people in SLT seems to totally misunderstand what our job is. It’s totally unacceptable to speak to people like this. It doesn’t actually matter whether you’d done something “wrong”, the HT should still back you. It’s ok for SLT to feel frustrated, it’s a tough job, but it’s not ok to vent your frustration on staff and verbally abuse them.
Is this someone newly promoted or new to the school? Did the head appoint them knowing they are rude, aggressive and unprofessional or do you think they will be shocked to hear about this?

hels71 · 30/09/2021 09:58

Promotion within school. Teacher is known to lack tact or diplomacy or even have any people skills.

That’s a shame. That suggests that, at best, the HT views this behaviour as worth tolerating in someone who had other more desirable attributes. At worst, they actually think this is desirable behaviour and promoted the person because of, rather than in spite of, their lack of diplomacy and people skills.

Laura2121 · 02/10/2021 16:26

I’m sorry that this happened to you. The same thing happened to me on my last day at a school a few years ago (her exact words were, “Such a b!” )

I reported it to the HT and DHT who backed her version of events that she did ‘not’ say it. She was a long-standing member of staff. Even though I had a witness: a Year 12 student who was with me at the time, who wrote a statement for me as to what she heard. However the school “wouldn’t accept a witness statement from a 17 year old”. Disgusting Angry

Since it was my last day and I was shortly due to fly away on vacation and was very busy, I didn’t go into involving the union. If this had happened at any other time I sure as hell would.

However I threatened the school that I would be taking things further unless I was given a written apology by this woman, for this incident as well as all the other bullying she had bestowed unto me the whole time I was at that place.

She hastily wrote an official and signed letter where she was careful not to admit to anything but went on the caveat “I’m sorry if you felt that…” for every statement. In the circumstances that just had to do..

Please enlist the union ASAP
