How to leave teaching? Is 50 too old to change?

I have decided I have had enough of teaching. But is 50 too old to try and change jobs? How do you even change jobs with the notice needed for teaching? Any advice please!

As a 50+ career changer, no I don’t think any age is too old. In my case I have left my old career to pursue a career in education. Early days yet, but thankfully on a positive path! If it feels right, go for it. Life is too short Smile

I'm going to do the same. 2 years left - am going to try and enjoy the teaching bit until then. Will leave at Christmas 2023.

I'm lucky in that I can hand my notice in and THEN look for another job, assuming that I'd possibly have to go back to supply if I couldn't find something.

I've decided that the best way to do this for me, is to try and get an admin type job in an organisation I'm interested in, then find my way up/or whatever once I've got my foot in the door. This is less of a financial hit than retraining formally.

I had a significant previous career however, which might help. Will have only been a teacher for 16 years. That is plenty, I'm exhausted by it. In the meantime I'm going to go part time as soon as school can arrange that for me.
