Hi all,

I am starting my training in Sept and I am struggling to find things to wear on placements. I was previously in an EYFS setting so leggings/ long tops were acceptable and practical.
I haven't really been told the dress policy all I know is that it is smart casual and obviously modest.
Where do you buy your clothes from? For reference, I am a size 20-22 and fairly short.

Thank you!

FatFace Simone dresses, leggings, cardigans, boots.

I get a lot of stuff in Matalan - not too expensive but usually quite a good choice.

I teach secondary science and generally wear trousers with a smart top or dresses.

i am in the same position and have bought some things from Seasalt.

Black trousers or skirt with a nice bright top or a dress. All my school clothes come from Next as it's decent enough looking but not too expensive if something gets dropped or spilled on it!

Thank you all for your replies, I have a better idea of what to get and some places I can look.
I think I am channelling my nerves into things I can control!

I'm in primary and generally wear black jeggings with smart shoes and a smart top. Used to wear dresses and even heels but as with all workplaces it's less formal nowadays. Primary schools often seem to have old hooks and things all over the place that rip your clothes! Or you get paint or superglue or something on them. For these reasons, I mainly buy school stuff in either supermarkets or H&M - even Next would be too expensive for me given how I seem to ruin stuff!

New look sometimes have nice jersey dresses which I wear with leggings (in secondary)
I also wear maxi dresses from there too.
Next are good for both jersey and maxi so too is yours clothing and I have a few items from saltwater and Boden.
Tbh anything that's comfy with pockets gets my vote

Mainly supermarkets ...dresses longish with tights n chunky flat boots in winter
Similar but with no tights and plimsoles or sandals summer

Uniqlo: they always have pockets.

Some schools have a no leggings policy so maybe avoid them the first day and see what others are wearing. I understand where you're coming from, I'm starting a new job next week and have spent far too much of the holiday shopping for school clothes and worrying about it! Good luck with your placement.

In our area next used to be almost teacher uniform, but not anymore. I went in and was shocked by the poor quality recently on workish items like blouses. I did buy a lovely top and jeans leggings though! I usually buy dresses in fat face type of shops but in the sale. I used to buy more Boden in their sale but their type of fabrics seem to need more ironing and their recent colours and styles are less workish that would suit me.
M and s for cheapish but ok quality black trousers that don't show your bum crack.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I have gone safe with some black trousers and some bright but fairly 'safe' tops and then I will get a few more things when I have seen what the staff tend to wear.
