New job in a school but not a teacher - what to expect

I start a new job in a secondary school in September, but am not a teacher.

Currently I work in the private sector (finance),

What should I be aware of, (culture etc) - I'm happy about the work tasks.

Is there a teacher / non teacher divide?

Are you working in finance in the school? Or some other role?

I wouldn't say there is a teacher/non-teacher divide as such, but some roles won't interact that much with the teachers on a regular basis and those roles would include finance. I think I've spoken to someone in the finance office twice in 4 years, once about a mistake with my pension and once about a form for a school trip I was organising. I speak to other non-teaching staff much more frequently - TAs, technicians, reprographics, reception, cleaning staff, etc as I see them more day-to-day.

Thanks, yes it is a head of finance role.
I'm guessing limited interaction with teachers day to day, unless talking about cost of trips or something.

(and also any salary, payroll, mat leave stuff etc)

There's not a divide between teachers and non-teaching staff in my school, but like others people naturally build relationships with the people they interact most with. Finance tends to be in an office doing finance in most schools so you'll probably find you don't see as many people as other members of support staff.
