Hi, I have an interview for a TA role on Monday. Does anyone have any advice they could give me.
I am in the process of completing my TA level 3 certificate but don't have any recent classroom experience. And also not had an interview for any job for 20 years!

Read the TES news section. Read about differentiation, scaffolding and behaviour management. If you're doing your qualification then that is already going to go in your favour. Be yourself, be flexible and be passionate. Good luck!

And they are bound to ask about your understanding of safeguarding…just make sure you are familiar with general requirements.
Good luck! Smile

@Crowsandshivers thank you.

Trying to read up, and keep all the important information in my head.

@Homez yes, I cometed the safeguarding section of the course last month so hope I have a good understanding and have read the schools own safeguarding policy.

I was going to suggest making sure you're fresh on safeguarding as there's usually a question about it.

Make sure you've read the school website so you can show you want a job in that particular school.

As others have said, have some ideas about differentiation and scaffolding ready. There's often a scenario based question such as 'if you were in a lesson and the child you were working with was struggling, what would you do?'

Good luck.

@LolaSmiles thank you. Definitely need to get reading and note taking today.

I have an interview too. What is a good answer to what to do if a child refuses to do the work?

LolaSmiles · 05/07/2021 20:14

coffee TES would be a good starting point if you're looking for headlines and current issues.

Bobbster There's lots of different approaches so you might get a lot of different replies. I'd start by establishing why a child is refusing to do the work because that would affect which approach I would take.
For example, if a child has a specific learning difficulty and they're refusing to do the task then it might be because the task is too difficult/big and they don't know where to begin. In that situation I would break the task down so that there was a more manageable starting point.

If a student is refusing to do the work because they have SMH needs and arrived to class angry at conflict they've just had with a teacher in the previous lesson, then I might offer to go for a walk with them, or talk to them outside to calm them down, or I might say to them that I'll give them 2 minutes space and come back to them.
