A TA in our school is doing this course, and just wondered how it compares with traditional PGCE / QTS etc? She doesn't have UK qualifications or an undergraduate degree, and was not successful applying for SCIIT, yet reckons she will be qualified to teach at secondary school within one year? Surely that can't be right?

Is it post-16 only, possibly? Not heard of it but a quick google is suggesting that.

Thank you getaway, yes I saw that too. One site suggests it’s for FE teaching, and another states post 14. Can’t see how it can enable QTS for secondary, without any undergraduate discipline, particularly as it also states no prior qualifications required to enrol on a course.

I know of it being offered in FE for (eg) tradespeople very highly qualified in their own area, but without degrees, to move into teaching/lecturing in their trade. For example, plumbers, electricians, surveyors. It does seem odd for a secondary TA.

I think they're probably mistaken or a bit optimistic. Who is going to hire a teacher with no degree?
