Hi
I'm due back off mat leave next month and want another baby ASAP. My schools policy is just the bog standard LA one and I can't see anything about a gap between mat leaves.
Does anyone know how long I have ti be back for before I'd qualify for the full entitlement again and not just mat allowance?

As soon as you want!

Do you not have to work a certain amount of time before another mat leave though to get the full entitlement?

Not that I'm aware of. You may have to pay back any occupational pay if you don't return at all after the second one. We had one woman not return at all between babies.

Wow! Did she still get full pay on the 2nd one?

Isn't it just 13 weeks you'll have to return? Which is fine unless you're already pregnant!

There is something about a qualifying week - I think the amount you earn in that week dictates the level of OMP you get. This is relevant as you might go up on the pay scale after this date but before commencing ML but your pay is calculated on your old grade. I think there is reference to the qualifying week in the burgandy book but I had to do a bit of digging to find out what it was.

It's definitely 13 weeks you have to return for or else you have to repay some of your smp.
I'm not sure if I have to do 13 weeks before getting pg (so effectively back for 53 weeks before a due date) or if its just 13 weeks so I could be pg going back if that makes sense?

Thanks. I think its something like the average between week 15 and 22 or something. I thiught it might just mean that I have to be working between those weeks too.

That sounds right to me.

I’m in this situation now. You don’t have to have any qualifying periods but they count how much you will get between 4th and 5th. I think of your 2nd pregnancy so you want to be back by then. I returned already pregnant and didn’t give a shit. My head teacher won’t be in my life in a few years and I won’t be intimidated by him. He was ok with the news as well, which was a bonus.
You don’t have to return for 13 weeks until you’re back from your second maternity or you might need to return some of the money.
I’m not worried about it now tbh, if I change schools and my current school wants the money then I’ll worry.

*4th or 5th months

Congratulations! How far along were you when you went back?
