Is what this academy is doing legal?

Year 2, 30 children half a day a week with a TA (who refuses to do any of the lesson plans but just babysit only) another half a day with a TA (who agrees to follow lesson plans) 1.5 days a week with a supply teacher and 2 days with a teacher.
The children have no consistency. If my child was at this school, I’d be very concerned.
Is this even legal?

Yes, it's legal. The academy don't have to employ a qualified teacher to take a class, Whether it is acceptable is a different story. Part time staff there should be no issues with.

Amazing (ly shit!)

Perfectly legal, yes. Wasn’t academisation an amazing idea?!

I’ve dipped my toe in for the first time this year and have already handed in my notice! It’s a HUGE scandal!

It happens in state school too. Sad for the pupils.

Yes it’s legal. My sister in law is the class “teacher” for year 3. She has a TA qualification, no GCSEs or degree but the academy have deemed her fit to teach. They can employ who they like.

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 12/06/2021 13:44

Is she paid as a teacher or a TA?@Chillychangchoo

Chillychangchoo · 12/06/2021 16:56

@MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers

Honest answer is I don’t know. My guess is she’s on the cheap.

You don’t get a CEO on the top of the pyramid on a footballer’s salary without giving the children the cheapest possible resources.

I am a teacher, having taught in a school for 9 years in a permanent post; there has been a pattern of staff leaving for one reason or other. I suddenly get a 'bad' observation for phonics. One of the points was I am confusing the children by singing the Alphabet Song. I have been put on 'informal support' I have asked the head to discuss the observation but she refuses. What should I do?

@Disheartened12 - it looks like your question got ‘lost’ at the end of a thread about something else. If you’re not already sorted, try starting a new thread about it and you’ll likely get more support. Flowers
