Are applications crazy everywhere?

My friend just told me they had 135 applications for 2 jobs...

Makes me wonder if I have any chance!

I applied for mine in June to start in September was years ago though!

Is it mainly primaries who are getting lots of people applying for one job? At my secondary we are lucky if we get more than two applicants for a role, and we're a high achieving school.

I think it's geographical perhaps.

I applied for my PGCE in November 2019 for September 2020 but we still had new people joining the course until the end of September.

In an area notorious for huge numbers of applications, the local high school normally has 6-8 to interview for every teaching post.

It seems to be incredibly competitive here at the moment (secondary, Midlands). I have a fantastic English trainee this year who hasn’t yet secured a job and it’s unheard of for a trainee as strong as them not to have a job so late in the year. Here it’s a combination of two years’ worth of trainees chasing fewer mainscale vacancies than usual. I thought recruitment would be very busy this year with everyone who didn’t move on in 2020 but the uncertainty seems to be making everyone sit tight.

It’s crazy here too. I’ve been told they’d have hundreds of applicants for schools I’ve applied to (primary). I feel like I’m losing hope at getting a job as so much competition.

I read somewhere they had 25% more people starting primary PGCEs this academic year (though can’t find where I read that to post it!).

I hope those looking are able to get posts.

We had to advertise three times for mainscale English teachers. We needed two : three applied and only one is promising.
