Any teacher parents whose children (teens) have gone to boarding school. What are your thoughts on it?

Mine is in year 9, having been there since Year 7. Completely led by her and right for her. Provision is excellent, care of children is too, and we are closer than ever, as she makes an effort to talk to me about her day every day.

Same here. Our 11 yr old daughter is in year 7, and absolutely loves it. It’s what she has always wanted, and although we were apprehensive and never dreamed we would ever consider boarding, it’s been the best decision for her. Her school allows flexible boarding too, so they can board anywhere from 2 nights a week to full board. Highly recommend it for the right child.

I am a mum of two but they are still young. I plan to send them to boarding school from year 7 or year 9.

I've been to boarding school and thrived in it. I've had my best years at boarding school and it sets me up for life. I am independent (emotionally and financially) and driven.

My sister on the other hand hated boarding school and only did a year. It was quite traumatic for her (because it didn't suit her).

I agree with the other two mums, it's a great idea for the right child.

Oh wow all yays :) good to hear feedback . Yes my teen is not really organized , struggles to develop a routine so I think the structure and daily routine will be great. She herself said she would like to gain independence so would consider boarding. I think it’s more me worrying about how she will feel without us there (she probably won’t be bothered).

Hello @SamBam25

If she would like to try and you find a good boarding school, it's good to let her try. No better place to learn about time management and organisation than a boarding school. I work a 12-hour a day job, have two kids and am a trustee for 3 boards. I know how to juggle because of my boarding school experience.

Best of luck x

@SamBam25 - Routine & structure was one of the deciding factors for us. Although extremely bright with a place at a top grammar, we had visions of homework wars and the endless stream of day dreams & distractions that always seemed to be a perpetual issue at home. Everything is last minute, when it’s not on a tight run agenda..and the stress that accumulates, was only going to ever get worse. Now she is glad when she sees her local friends bogged down with mountains of evening & weekend homework, as she gets her homework completed in prep..supervised and completely focussed. Spends her evenings enjoying activities with her friends..cooking together in the house kitchen..or chilling in the sit with a movie. And best of all, her weekends are completely free. Unless they have Saturday sports fixtures..in which case she comes home after that. All in all, she is super relaxed & happy. Good luck with your choice Smile

Hey all.

Would anyone be as kind to share the names of the boarding school their children attend? You could also directly message me. I am looking for one for my son. Many thanks
