Affordable housing for teachers?

Long story short, I can't afford a decent house in a commuting distance from my school (London)
Before I consider to quit my job and move to a more affordable area (countryside)...someone know if teachers have some kind of help? London doesn't care if experienced teachers leave?

There used f be a key worker scheme many years ago where the government would help you buy somewhere, but you only part owned it. Not sure if it's still running though, as it was ages ago. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Shared ownership, as mentioned above, is the closest thing. Sadly, very few careers allow you to live comfortably in London, and teaching paid far better than most in the capital. As you've said, the only option for better quality of life is to move. We moved out to the coast from London and have never looked back, far better life here.

I really like my current school. It is a shame that I need to quit my job so I can buy a house. I'm quite expensive and I don't know how easy will be to find another school. I don't see a lot of jobs available.

Thanks for your reply

I commuted for a year on the high speed train, it wasn't so bad, but quite expensive. The job I took down here maxed me out on the salary scale and TLR for HoD, so you might be surprised to find that schools are happy to pay for the right person. I've only worked in independent schools though.

I work in a state school and every time someone experience leave, they hire an NQT. I will have a look to independent schools ☺️ thanks

Exactly the same in my state school. I'm also on the expensive side, part time and get inner London weighting. Jobs that come up in an area closer to where I currently commute to, juts won't pay the same. So I stay where I am, rather stuck!

Thankfully we managed to buy our house during the last recession and don't really want to move out of London. It's just the travelling the wears me out really!
