Is it cheeky to ask the Head this...?

I applied for a TA job through a Teaching agency and started work. The contract ends in July.

The Head asked me if I would like to extend the contract with her and that the school would like to employ me as a TA.

Is it cheeky to ask the Head if I can sign the contract before July. If I dont, I will miss out on the summer hols pay and I need the money.

You can ask... but a lot of TA contracts are term time only.

It might be worth checking what the pay situation in the holidays is before you sign the contract. Some schools spread the pay out and others don't.

I would just say you are thrilled she would like you to become permanent and you keen to have secure employment so please could you see and sign the contract for peace of mind. Once you then have the contract you can see the terms, when it would start etc and then go and negotiate if needed- if you don't ask, you don't get (remembering many schools budgets are tight so she may not be able to- depends what the situation for other TAs in the school is).

I don't think any of this is cheeky- and I hate school staff are often made to feel like that. It is a job to pay bills at the end of the day and so you should feel empowered, not like you owe them something. I put off leaving a school with a toxic, bullying culture as the head was so terrifying and I felt so guilty for leaving as I felt I was letting the children down. Then I remembered it is a job at the end of the day- I shouldn't feel any guilt or like I owe them anything!
