Anyone taught at independent schools in China?

I’ve been offered a job at an independent school in one of the main cities in China. It looks like a great school for my own kids and seems to have some wonderful opportunities for me as a teacher. Just wondering if anyone has relocated their family and taught there and how you found living there? Feedback from friends and colleagues have said they really enjoyed it but language is the biggest barrier, but extended family think it’s a wrong move.

I've not taught in China but I have taught in lots of other parts of Asia. I know people that have loved it and hated it but your main considerations are:
Pollution is very very bad in the main cities - particularly Shanghai and Beijing - with children especially this is a consideration.
Some of the international schools are just private schools for locals - most children will be Chinese, not expats. This could be hard on your children if Chinese is the playground language, although they will learn fast.
If you are taking a spouse they may well have trouble finding work without knowing Mandarin.
Most people I know have done a 2 year stint in China then gone somewhere else in Asia or the Middle East especially with Children. I've enjoyed international teaching with my children and they've had a fantastic time but I didn't choose China as I didn't feel it was right for them.
